last week was craft week....

i was back home from vaca and all by my lonesome at the shop

since br was gone, i had to find some way to entertain myself

so i did this...

i made 40 of these...

which may not seem like much, but holy cow... it took a lot more time than i was expecting.

i dipped old invoice, scrap paper and catalogs in coffee

let them dry

cut them up into various petal shapes

hot glued them

and walla!

a window filled with paper flowers!

since i had to drench around 250 pieces of paper with coffee

i had a little bit of waiting time in between.

while i was waiting, i had a spray paint party

i painted lots of letters...

and a frame.

after i painted the frame,

i screwed in 10 loops to the back side of the frame

then added wire across...

to make a sunglass display

{i've been wanting to do this project for a while and realized i finally had all the materials to do so!}

so there you have it.... my first productive week of the year! go me!

remember in arrested development when tobias gets hair implants and his implants begin to reject his body? well that's what ak is doing to me. it's rejecting my life. it all started with my car...

for the last two months, on my days off i have planned to take my car in for a check up and to get my battery replaced and on every single one of my days off it has either a}snowed so much that i can not drive my car or b}been too cold that my car will not even start. my poor, poor car has just about had it and can no longer handle this crazy ak weather. this weekend it was dead for 4 whole days... after about 8 hours of charging the battery, i was able to get it started {thankfully!!}... crossing my fingers it will last through this terribly cold week!

not only has ak rejected my car, but it has begun rejecting my home. this weekend, while my car was freezing to death, my house was also doing so and then my pipes froze. booo. nothing worse than literally being stuck at home with frozen pipes...

what will be next??

i'm hoping ak begins to let down a little because as nice as it may sound to be in a warmer, more friendly state, i can't leave juuust yet. :)

ok, enough complaints... now for some snaps!

you know when your browsing the internet and a website you are trying to load is having difficulty loading and all you have to do is press that wonderful little refresh button to make it all better? wouldn't it be nice if we could do that with life, love and relationships? well since you can't... that's where resolutions and goals come in...right?

it's a new january, in a new year and i'm hoping that with sky high goals and a new perspective, this new year can bring a new, better, me.

so far....

beach house still melts my heart {the good kind of melty} and still satisfies my cravings.

forgiveness was always something i was good at... but maybe not so much any more?

i have new eyes that see new things... at first i didn't like this new set of eyes, but i think i'm beginning to appreciate them.

strange to say, but until last year, it was always so much easier for me to judge others and to think that i knew what was best for everyone, or to question another person's actions, when i didn't quite understand. it's strange how life can change perspective and how you can see things completely different than you had before. i no longer desire to question others and now know, that i have no clue what others are thinking, feeling, going through or what is best for them. so instead, i will choose to listen, accept and be supportive...because i know i could never fully understand and i don't really need to.

i've set my goals high and i am going to reach them, no matter what.

nothing compares to what my family brings to my life, mind and soul... i feel so blessed to have such a unique connection with them and will always, always hold that close to my heart.

i've always known there are very few things you have control of, which has been hard for me at times... but now, i'm ok with not having control over those things... and i'm ok with trying to focus on what i do have control of.

life isn't easy. love isn't easy. nothing, really, is easy. although there may seem like easier ways to go about things, as always, i choose the more challenging route and i think i will continue to do so...

last year brought a lot of hurt, change and disappointment to all areas of my life. this made me so much more sensitive and insecure than i had ever imagined i could be, which inevitably layered my heart with loads and loads of calluses. this year, i plan to shave down those calluses, layer by layer, and slowly try to feel again.

sacrifice is key. less is more in the end...right???

now that i have found an amazing gluten free pancake recipe, gluten free is officially my new way to be and i'm going at it right...

one.thing.at.a.time.

major crafting may only happen at two places, for now. 1}at home {in boise}, with family. 2}at work with br. although these restrictions apply...there are loads of crafting that will take place this year.
i've found myself pondering my purpose...and i like where this question has taken me.

i'm really enjoying this go home every couple of months thing... can't seem to get enough, so i think i'll keep it up. :)

i'm expecting a lot of ups and downs, highs and lows, days i feel productive, days i feel that i've fallen behind, to feel good about myself, to feel bad about myself, to want more, to be frustrated and everything else that comes with life...but most of all, i hope that by the years end, i feel happy with how i handled what life gave me and who i have become.

you sent me an article this morning about how a father should go about raising their daughters... and while i was reading it, i discovered even more, how truly lucky i am to have had you as my dad.
do you realize that you have always loved our mother and your marriage. you have proven to us how much you love her in the way that you show respect towards her, tenderness, loyalty, compassion and devotion... and because of this, i do value my womanhood and feel like i deserve and should be treated the same.
do you realize that as much as popular culture has tried to make this seem unimportant, you have always maintained the role as the patriarch in our family-- you have protected, defended, rejected unnecessary material things, shown that your family truly is what matters in life and lead the way, through example, as our father and head of our household. as much as popular culture has tried to make me believe otherwise, i see the importance of this and respect and appreciate how hard you have worked to help us, your children, see this.
do you realize that you have always shown us the importance of virtue, morality and why it is so important to keep our bodies free of toxins and things that may alter who we are, or take away from who we can be.
do you realize you have always been aware of the things you have brought into our home... and although at times i have seen it as "annoying," i now understand, why it was important to you that we did not watch or listen to things that weigh heavy on our mind and soul.
do you realize that you have always been present in all of our lives... and shown us by literally being there when we have needed you, by lifting us up, by expecting us to be kind, by expecting us to be good, by expecting us to think about each other and others, by showing us the importance of modesty, by expecting us to be more than we think we can be, by always believing in us, by wanting us to be successful in anything we do and by supporting us through anything and everything... but most of all by being there, always, without fail.
do you realize you have done everything you could as a father, you have stood for things you know are worth fighting for, when i was a teenager you waited for me to come home, you checked up on me when you didn't feel right about things... you talked to us, you sang with us, you laughed with us, you had fun with us and showed us how to have fun just by being together.
dad, do you realize you have done everything a father could do for your children? and do you realize as hard as things can be and at times, as much as it can seem otherwise... that we will always and eternally be grateful for being placed in your arms and having you as our father?
there are very few fathers out there that can say they did and continue to do all of these things and i am so proud to have a father that is one of those few. :)

you know what i hate more than anything? when it snows before halloween and the beginning of real, actual winter. i know, i'm a kill joy... but let me tell you what the first days of winter are like for me...
it starts with putting on a brand spanking new pair of totally amazing pants and the button pops off in the very first seconds of wearing those g*dang things.
then you go to start your car and your car decides it's not going to start because it hates the first day of winter just as much as you do.
then you find a nice male suitor to help you jump your winter revolting car and that suitors hood knob decides to break.
so then, you find another nice male suitor to jump your car and this time it works.
after that, you lock your keys in your car... at this point you are way late for work.
in the end because of all this first day of winter nonsense you forget to brush your g*dang teeth.
that is why i hate the first days of winter. and that is also why i now declare the first winter days as "feel bad for ashley days." just go with it ok, it might make me feel better.

there's nothing that reminds me more of idaho than a good ol' country song. when i was a kid, i despised it and would torcher anyone that made me listen to it. {no joke} is it strange to say that things have changed and the older i get, the more i appreciate the genre? i love the roots of country, the typically tenderness of the lyrics and the stories behind them, how clean and real the music is, the original american twang and i especially love when i hear a country song that reminds me of my family. specifically this one...

it was family night and yogurtland was our destination.
bikings and gut aches and yogurts and cinnabons
were all factors of this evening.

it was one of the best nights in a long, long time.
even if the gut ache was very possibly the worst that one could have,
all the yogurt and cinnabon eating was wellll worth it.

i'm not sure if you already know this, but i have a very intense addiction to popcorn. not one specific kind. i like them all. so tonight, for family dinner, i attempted a new.to.me. kind (spicy maple-cashew popcorn}. i think it was honestly the most delicious popcorn i have ever eaten. ever. because of this i ate and ate and then the guilt set in...

currently, i have a love hate relationship with food... but we can talk more about that later.

it is very likely that from now on, june will be my most hated month. it was always one of my favorites.
summer is almost half way gone and not one moment was enjoyed.
a song i loved and listened to on repeat {but had never read the title to} turned out to be just another heartbreak.
who will i begin to be, i wonder?   only emptiness enters my mind.
maybe red will change things for me?
but i still want the same things.
i'm not ready for any of it yet and i'm sorry.

happy father's day to my dad... he is an incredible man and i am more than lucky to have him as my dad. how many dads will go on a 4 hour drive with you and talk the whole way? how many dads watch sappy, sad movies with you and cry more than you do? how many dads still take your mom on date nights once a week and not only that but truly love spending that time with her? how many dads still tell your mom how beautiful she is and how much he loves her? how many dads love to play basketball {prison rules only} with their 10 children? how many dads just call to say "i love you?" how many dads would give up a job, money, the world and anything for their family? how many dads love being a dad as much as my dad? my list could go on and on, but my point is, there certainly aren't many and that is why i'm so lucky. i love you dad... thanks for being you, thanks for setting such a great example of what a good father and husband truly is, thanks for being so good to me and thanks for being my dad. happy father's day to the best dad around.

you know what i love about my family? i love our weirdness. particularly that somehow we all {without discussing} started talking to each other in wookie language. once one starts up, the whole family chimes in and it ends, without a single laugh. so strange but so munson. just one strange thing amongst the many and also one of the many reasons that i am glad i am a munson.
